Java Installation

Java  is a general-purpose computer programming  language  that is concurrent, class-based, object-oriented, and specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. Java is object oriented programing (OOP).  OOP   refers to a type of computer  programming  (software design) in which programmers define the data type of a data structure, and also the types of operations (functions) that can be applied to the data structure.  If you're pretty good at following written instructions, click here to install Java. If you need help, click here for info on how to install Java on Windows and here to download Java on Mac.

Tech Topic Connection: Let's Chat.

The topic I chose to research is IT careers . I chose this topic because I want to find a job in IT, so I need to know what the job descriptions entail, necessary qualifications & average pay rate. I’ve found that job tasks do not typically match the job title so it is hard to search for positions by job title. I also do not want to apply for jobs that aren’t in a pay grade that I am willing to work for.
I absolutely need to know what certifications or job experience is needed for me to land my dream job in tech. At this time, I am unsure what type of job I want. I’m hoping to figure that out by the time that I am finished with my degree. The one question I hope to find an answer to is how to land a job in IT when you don’t have professional experience in IT.

Network Security

“Ping of Death” is a type of attack that can happen via ping. It is a denial of service (DoS) attack caused by an attacker deliberately sending an internet protocol (IP) packet larger than the 65,536 bytes allowed by the IP protocol. Sending a ping packet larger than 65,535 bytes violates the Internet Protocol, attackers would send the malicious packets in fragments. When the targeted system attempts to reassemble the fragments, they end up with an oversized packet that could lead to their system crashing.

Documenting a Day

Compare the functions of word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications. The function of a word processor is to write documents. The function of a spreadsheet is to document numbers, charts, graphs and formulas. The function of a presentation application is to create visual presentations. The function of a database application is to keep track of data so that it can be easily recalled. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to access at home and I am unable to use the application for school work while I am at work.

Programming Languages

Describe your experience building a program using Scratch. I found it quite interesting to build in scratch. I had never heard of it prior to this course and was eager to start clicking away. I found scratch to be user friendly, and it also reminded me of a children’s computer game from the 80’s.

Computers in the Workplace

Image
For this blog, I will discuss information technology in corporate America. I have worked for several fortune 500 companies, and no matter how much money they make- all of their computers are outdated. I’m currently working for a company that is heavy into technology, but our computers are old and slow. Our software is always at least 3 versions behind. We use programs such as salesforce that can be programmed to fit any needs, yet we don’t take advantage of those capabilities. We have software that is just good enough to get the job done. If the companies spent a little more money on technology, the job could be done faster.

Traveling Through a Network: Ping vs Traceout

Image
A computer communicates through the internet by sending out packets that contain information about the destination address and also the actual data itself ie email message. The packets travel much like physical packages do. They have a specific destination and the route is preplanned based on what is the quickest. If a portion on the route is busy, the packet will reroute to the next best option. The router is what determines the route the packet will take.

Web/Mobile App Critique: New App Called Instagram

Image
Instagram is an application where users can upload photos or 60 second videos to be viewed by their friends. The content posted can either be liked by users or they can comment on it and those comments are viewed by whomever is on the users friends list. The first screen shot above shows what the instagram icon looks like on my iPhone.  The second screenshot shows what my homepage looks like on instagram once I log in.
